We wanted to show you one of the crafstmen who make Sharkah Chakra's custom made denim. This is Mr Babu he lives in a remote village in Southern India. He has worked as Hand weaving craftsmen for over 30 years and it is his passion for making the very finest cloths that make him perfect to make Sharkah Chakra denim. Mr Babu was taught  the art of hand tailored weaving by his Father Mr Babu Senior. Making fabrics this way has been his family heritage for four generations. Today the work Mr Babu does means he is his own boss, which is something that makes him proud. He treats his work like creating individual pieces of art. So, we asked Mr Babu along with all our artisans to sign the denim he made - giving our custom made jeans the artists touch.. and connecting sharkah chakra wearers can be connected to who made their jeans...

So the Sharkah Chakra team got together and deconstructed all we knew about denim and put it back together again using custom made ancient techniques, hand made original craftsmanship and natural organic ingredients to put the luxury in how denim is made. We're living at an amazing time where all of us have the power to challenge ideas and innovate design for a more sustainable tommorow, that should not be about compromise but about doing it better than it has been done before! Sharkah Chakra was founded by Sara Simmonds, who previously worked at Harvey Nichols, London, as the menswear denim buyer.

Sara’s passions behind the creation of Sharkah Chakra were a desire to make luxury without exploitation to people or the planet. Uninspired by seeing so many brands doing the same thing Sara wanted to create something original and truly innovative for the future which is now. There is little luxury  left in how we make not only denim but most of fashion and that the time was right to put the luxury feeling back into how something was made and what we wear. Over 18 months Sara researched original luxury techniques of making custom made fabrics and clothes which were individually hand cut, hand tailored and hand made. This forgotten craftsmanship was found to still exist but was and is in danger of dying out.

What the team at Sharkah Chakra have pioneered is a way to work with these craftsmen to make the first ever hand made denim in the world which not only creates jeans which are one off pieces they help to protect and revive the workmanship of communities and artisans. Sharkah Chakra denim is the first ever brand to make all of its denim using natural indigo dye which is sustainable and good for the environment. Each jean is hand dyed individually celebrating the forgotten craftsmanship of the artisan. The idea of the collection is to combine a luxury custom made fabric, with sexy timeless fits that transcend fashion so that you can collect a wardrobe of individual pieces with the idea you will be able to  love and wear them forever.

Each jean takes 6 months to make from the time that the organic Fairtrade cotton is harvested in Africa to the jeans being hand finished in Italy. The fabric alone is woven by one artisan who makes enough denim for 2 pairs of jeans per day. We ask all our artisans to sign the denim that they make so that we are all connected to who made what we wear and we can walk around knowing that it has been hand made with love and care.  Sara wanted  every detail of our jeans to be special, so each jean has a hand placed trademark gold rivet which symbolizing the hands who have made them, and also a saffron gold friendship bracelet which is a sign that our denim wearers are a part of our work and our philosophy to hand make life. Sara believes ‘nothing stops us from achieving our dreams we can all achieve great things if we put our minds to it. This is why our brand is called sharkah chakra when translated sharkah means hand made and chakra is a symbol of the circle of life.
